My Weekly Cleaning Routine

If you don’t love to clean, then this type of cleaning routine is what you need! Breaking your cleaning routine up into daily cleaning zones makes cleaning less overwhelming, and much quicker.  

Look at your home and your daily schedule, and determine what days will work best to clean which zones. I say zones instead of rooms because it will depend on your home and its size. My home is rather small so some days I will focus on one room and on others I will focus on a specific zone. If I know a day is usually packed with things to do, that will be the day I focus on the smallest or quickest area to clean. 

Another tip you may want to use is setting a timer. Set a timer for 30 minutes, and whatever you don’t get to you save for the following week. Just make sure you’re not saving the same thing for the following week and never getting to it. Start with the most time-consuming part of cleaning first and leave the quicker task to your last minutes’ countdown.

SUNDAY: Kitchen

I tend to spend the most time in the kitchen on Sundays preparing dinner and prepping my breakfast and lunch for the week. It just makes sense to clean the kitchen before cooking and finishing it up while my food is cooking. 

I’ll put the dishes in the dishwasher, clean off the countertops, wipe down the cabinets, and clean the floor.

MONDAY: Bedrooms

Cleaning the bedrooms is my least favorite zone to clean. I guess the bedroom represents resting, so I don’t want to do work where I do my resting. 

In my master bedroom, I clean the bedding, dust off and wipe down the furniture and clean the floor.

In the guest bedroom, which is a storage room at the moment, I’ll do a quick dusting and vacuum the rug. Once the room is a room again, I’ll go back to including it in my weekly cleaning. For now, I’ll just leave the door shut until then.

TUESDAY: Dining Room

Tuesdays are my busier days.  After work, I’ll have class for grad school on top of working on my business. The dining room is one of the quickest, if not the quickest, and easiest areas to clean in my house. 

I’ll clean off the table, dust the bookcase, clean the mirror, and then clean the floors.

WEDNESDAY: Bathrooms

In my master bath, I’ll clean off the countertop, clean the sink, toilet, and tub, empty the trash, and clean the floor.

The cats use the guest bathroom, so I start by sweeping the floor and getting all of the escaped litter, then clean out their litter box. After that super experience, I’ll clean off the countertop and sink, clean the toilet, empty the trash, and clean the floor.

THURSDAY: Office

The room that gets forgotten will get cleaned on Thursdays whenever I remember. Thankfully, my office doesn’t really get too messy.  I’ll start by cleaning off my desk, then I’ll dust my bookcases and furniture, empty the trash, then clean the floor.

FRIDAY: Living Room

My living room is usually simple to clean. So, once I’m all settled in for the night, I’ll do a quick sweep of the space before watching a movie or some TV. 

I always start by cleaning off the coffee table and cleaning the mirror. Then I vacuum the rug. I’ll dust off my furniture and mantle, and clean the floor. When I remember, I’ll also vacuum out the cat’s beds while I’m vacuuming the rug.

SATURDAY: Laundry and Hallway

Saturday is when I’ll normally do my major cleaning when needed. Otherwise, on every other Saturday, I’ll do my laundry. Since the laundry closet is in the hallway, I’ll clean the hallway as well by putting things away and cleaning the floor.
