DIY Halloween Costumes

With Halloween less than a week away, finding the right costume (as an adult) can be tricky.  I’m one for a cute DIY Halloween costume.  I can’t see myself spending tons on something I will more than likely never wear again. This year I am “super” excited to wear my DIY costume to work on Halloween. As a teacher, there is but so much I can get away with, and I think my costume will be just the right amount of “appropriate” to not be too costumey.

Here are some cute DIY costume finds I found on my search.  One may just be my costume for this year! Can you figure out which one?

jelly-belly

This is so simple. All you need is a clear garbage bag, a pack of water balloons, and a print of the jelly belly label. Add some black pants and you’re all set.

wind-me-up

I thought this was too cute. Take a paper towel roll and some cardboard or foam board.  Cut the foam/cardboard in the shape of a winder. Paint paper towel roll and foam/cardboard your desired color. Glue together, add a string or something to attach to you. And you’re ready to come to life.

snow-white

What a great spin on Snow White using what you have in your closet, plus an apple.  All you need is a yellow skirt, blue top, add a white collared shirt to wear underneath, and a red bow or headband. Jazz it up even more with a yellow pencil skirt. Wearing your hair in a bob will surely help.

super-girl

Here’s another great spin on a classic character with  this Super Girl costume. Another easy go to your closet DIYer. You may have to pick up a Superman tee and red suspenders, but everything else are staple pieces; white button down blouse and black skirt or pants. The glasses are sure to add the finishing touch.

50s-glam-1

This 50s throwback is so back in style right now.  Put on your skinny jeans, black moto leather jacket, white button down tied, and a cute scarf with , matching pumps or ballet flats.

rosie-riveter

This iconic symbol of feminism is another easy DIY.  For this Rosie the Riveter inspired costume all you need is a light chambray shirt, black or denim skinny jeans, and a red bandanna. Curl and pin up your hair, and don’t forget that red lipstick. This one will give you an excuse to show off your guns.

make-up-face

And the best DIY money saving costume is the not so basic, painted face.  One year I was a pretty zombie, and all it required me to do was make-up my face. I love the comic strip, cat, and deer face paints (make-up) as well.  If you’re talented with make-up, this may be a great option for you. Just find the outfit, from your closet, that works best with the look you’re going for!
